The Back to School Spirit?

Teachers had to report back Wednesday (seriously?  August 10th? Earlier and earlier my dear . . . ), and my summery-rested body has been in a state of shock!  This whole waking up at the crack of dawn thing is for the birds.  And not only waking up early, but plunging into academic discourse about the achievement gap and special education test scores and improving our practice . . . just give me Jersey Shore!!

I'm sorta kidding; it's been great to see all my co-workers and get ready for school, but not gonna lie, I'm missing waking up at 9:30 and being in my bathing suit and watching Jax's sexiest scenes on repeat.

This is what we did after the first day back to school:

(same plan for today)

Other things I'm excited about:

*My stalking plans: Heading up to Napa/Sonoma Sunday . . . but I've learned that Ben F's Evolve Wines doesn't have a tasting room/public "winery."  So that leaves me no choice but to attend this next Friday.

*My latest nail polish find:

*I ordered this to celebrate the arrival of football season!

*My BFF is coming to visit me Labor Day weekend and I cannot wait!!!

us in . . . 2006? 2005?

Oh and speaking of Jersey Shore (several paragraphs ago), my friend Matt and I tweet each other every Jerzday with funny #s about our favorite guidos and guidettes.  Examples:

#letsspreadsomemono
#whatbeardVinny?
#juiceheadsonvespas
#fistpumpinpope

Got any to contribute?  Happy Friday!

Friday I'm in Love!

Yay for Friday!  This week has been busy, but also full of things that I'm lovin':

1. The Orange Cadbury Creme Egg

No more talk about this obsession because I am trying, desperately, to overcome it.  Moving on.

2. Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips
Peep my nails:

Excuse a) the bad picture and b) the marker on my hands (we were making posters for our event in class).  But check out how cute my little fishnet nails are!  This is the second time I've used Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips and they seriously do last about a week.  It's incredible.  I'm smitten.

3. This Baby's Face

I know yammering on and on about babies can be tiresome, but this baby, Jude Freitag, is otherworldly.  I babysit him and his big brother (whom I also adore) every Thursday, and Jude pretty much smiles at me like this the entire afternoon.  He's unlike any other.

4. Casey Abrams

American Idol makes me realize I'm a little snotty about music.  I totally turn my nose up when contestants choose lame-o songs to sing (eh-hem, Pia, Thia, and Stefano).  Which is why my heart swelled so big when Casey did me proud again by picking CCR last week.  How rad was he with his stand up bass?  I love this guy.  Possibly even more than I loved Andrew Garcia . . . which is sayin' a lot.  I voted my thumbs off on Wednesday night for this dude.  And speaking of American Idol, can y'all believe Pia got sent home?  The most attractive contestant in the history of this show?  With some bangin' vocals?  Crazy.

5. That Which Gets Me through the Week

Happy Friday everyone.  Hope the weekend's fun!  Now tell me what you're loving this week . . .

Girl Time is the Best Time

Yesterday I was feeling all kindsa bluesy, so when my friend Amanda (whom you read about here) came to my office after school and suggested that instead of working out, like we'd planned, that we do something more fun and girly, I couldn't have nodded my head more quickly.

Important to know: I almost never get my nails done.  I love the experience of a mani/pedi at a salon, but I also enjoy doing my nails myself (smoothing & filing & clipping & painting, all while sitting on my couch watching tv with a glass of wine, is so therapeutic to me!).  Therefore, I rarely fork over the cash to get 'em done pretty at a nail salon.  However, yesterday, going to get a mani/pedi followed by a drink at a neighboring bar just seemed oh so right.

So we hopped in my car and went here:

San Francisco Sun, Cole Valley

I've actually been to San Francisco Sun many times before, cause I used to live in the neighborhood, and while I don't get my nails done often . . . when I do, I go there.  I'd like to point out that for $30, you get a delightful manicure and pedicure in the best spa chair I've experienced while enjoying complimentary wine.  That's right, free booze with your mani/pedi!  Suffice to say, Amanda and I were in heaven.  It's pretty in there, everyone is nice, and the owner, Colette, is so neighborly (we ran into her afterwards at the pub next door).

I forgot to take a picture of Amanda's nails, but here is what I chose:

these little piggies went to the salon!

I left my camera in Georgia, so these are merely iPhone pics--my fingernails are actually more light purpley in person.  I love the way they look!  I chose an OPI lilac shade for my fingers and an Essie purple-pink for my toes (I always go darker on my toes).  I have to confess that I already can't wait to go back (but next time I'm gonna try out the gel manicure--anyone done that yet?).

After our decadent nail experience, we hopped over to Kezar Pub for a beer and some nachos:

Kezar is a neighborhoody pub between Cole Valley and Haight/Ashbury, and they have a fine selection of beers on tap (I got Blue Moon; Amanda got Stella).  We split a small nachos and had some great convo and I left feeling totally rejuvenated.  Seriously.  There is nothing in the world like girlfriends to make you feel better about boy problems.  I'm so grateful for my friends (and my city!).

Hope everyone's having a great week . . . I really want to talk about Snooki getting arrested, but this post is already pretty long, so that will have to wait till tomorrow. :)

Friday I'm in Love!

Yay!  It's Friday and I am in love with a lot more things than I was in love with last Friday.  My jerkface students & I hugged it out and made up today, and we're all staring a 3 day weekend in the face!  I don't even mind that I'm not going away to a warm beach this weekend, cause I'm so dang excited to catch up with some things around the house and otherwise be blissfully lazy.  Here's my 9/3/10 love list:

Birthday Earrings!
I am decidedly in love with all six pairs of earrings I got for my bday, but here's a spotlight on two pairs in particular (both of which I've worn this week):

The dangly beauties on the left feature photographs of Anais Nin, one of my very favorite writers/women/historical figures.  I LOVE HER.  They are from my best friend, Tiffany, who lives in Pittsburgh and whom I miss terribly (we've been bffs since 9th grade).  The adorable little studdies on the right are incredibly thoughtful fleur de lis pretties from the sweet-as-pie Summer!  They are especially meaningful since Summer & I share a deep love for New Orleans (she's from NOLA, I went to college there).  Thank you sweet girls!

Only Gold for Me
Not only is that my personal mantra, but it's the name of my new favorite nail polish.  I laid eyes on it this week in Sephora, tested it on my thumb, and knew right away that I had to have it.  Sadly, they were all out!!!  I couldn't bring myself to buy the tester, as it only had about 25% left in it.  You better believe I'll be waiting in line as soon as they get a new shipment; check out how gorgeous:

Pretty Hair
I'm about as attached to my hair stylist, Lauren, as I am to anything in this mortal world.  Which is why I'm thrilled to have an appointment with her here

this coming Wednesday afternoon for a cut & Brazilian blowout!  Can't wait for my locks to be shiny & silky right outta the shower.  I'll report back with the results, of course.

Labor Day
I mean . . . as someone who has two jobs, values unions, and appreciates the common working man, I am fond of the spirit behind Labor Day, as detailed in Wikipedia:

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations," followed by a festival for the workers and their families.

But I have to be honest and admit that I actually care a lot more about the fact that we get a long weekend than I am about the sentiment.  Bring on the Monday BBQ at our house!

Happy long weekend!
