ln -s /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Bluetooth.prefPane ~/Desktop

ln -s /System/Library/PreferencePanes/nome applicazione ~/Desktop

Tutto qua.

NOKIA 6303i classic REVIEW
Nokia today announced the Nokia 6303i classic, a sophisticated and compact device that follows in the footprints of the Nokia 6303 classic and builds on the proven formula that made Nokia the world leader in mobile phones. The device is great value for money with its amazing feature list and an estimated retail price of EUR 105, before taxes and subsidies.

The 6303i classic now comes stomaching enhanced battery talents, enabling you to make up to 8 hours of calls. It’s also capable of letting you listen to around 30 hours of music via its built-in music player and FM radio, and will sit tight for over three weeks on standby.

Extending its rack of communication tools, the 6303i supports instant messaging for enhanced social savviness. It also features a 3.2-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, geared up for easily sharing your sharp snaps online.

We touched on the topic of refinement a few weeks ago and it’s place in mobile innovation and development cycle, and the 6303i classic is certainly another example of this to sit alongside the likes of the similarly honed E72. What do you think?

The 6303i classic begins shipping in selected territories this quarter.

The 6303i uses the S40 6th edition user interface. The interface is simple and intuitive. There is not much change in the UI over its predecessor 6303. The home screen has got slight make over, which features usual status reading like signal & battery status, caller ID. When the keypad is locked, if you press end key, it shows time and date. The menu system also got some renovation. The new mode displays a single icon at a time. The interface is boring as the icons lack the animations. Since it lacks multitasking, you can’t minimize java apps like Opera browser and do other tasks.

The Nokia 6303i Classic offers connectivity in the form of GPRS and EDGE, both of which are class 32. Micro-USB and blue tooth are also included as standard and offer additional connectivity options. The handset comes with an internal memory capacity of 55 MB, with a 2 GB card included in most packages, whilst for further memory capacity the existing microSD card slot and relevant cards can be used to increase capacity up to 16 GB.

The handset offers an impressive 2.2 inch TFT display screen which offers impressive levels of colour variance by virtue of its 16 million colour options. The handset offers the alternative of either ring or vibration alerts as well as the ability to utilise existing MP3 files as ringtones. The phone also comes with a speakerphone which provides effective hands free communication in addition to a 3.5 mm audio jack which offers the option of personal listening, should this be desired or required.

The Classic Nokia 6303i is an impressive handset, styled in a popular style with a range of functionality that makes it a viable option for many.

Spring Break + My Mama = Hiking!

I've been totally MIA from all things internet and blog related during my mama's visit, but that's A-OK cause we had so much fun! We probably walked 20 miles while she was here, most of which occurred in gorgeous locations . . . here's the rundown:

Friday night: Picked her up from the airport and went to Burma Superstar (yum!). During the wait, we ran to Marc 49 and had a glass of wine (i.e. she had a 3 wine flight and I had San Pellegrino). We ate samosa soup and rainbow salad and greens and it was delicious!

Saturday: Woke up and went to the Berkeley farmers market, had some coffee, hiked at the Lafayette Reservoir, bought some books, came home and cooked some ridiculously good fresh hand-made pasta (Meyer Lemon and Chili linguini) from the farmers market with swiss chard, broccoli, red pepper, garlic, and onion (whoa), and then entertained several of my fabulous friends.

Sunday: Made a quick pit stop at Bakesale Betty's for some scones/cookies/banana bread and headed up to Casa de Milo & Family (where Jeannette & Freeman met us) so my mama could meet the babies I love so much (and their parents!). JJ (Milo's dad) made us a wonderful breakfast, which we ate on their back patio overlooking a lake and Mount Tamalpais, and my little baby friends were as cute as ever. I love how Freeman says "Miloooooo." After brunch, we went to Muir Woods and did a rigorous, beautiful redwood hike, stopped at Mollie Stone's to pick up some veggies for dinner, and then came home and ate while watching the Sex and the City movie. A pretty dang perfect day.

Monday: Woke up early and met Gaela at Land's End, hiked down to Sutro Baths/Cliff House and back, then had lunch at Calzone's in North Beach (where Cathy's brother hooked us up with all kinds of scrumptious food from the kitchen). I had a swiss chard calzone, which in combination with the pasta from Saturday and Sunday nights, meant that I probably ate 3 heads full of chard over the weekend. After lunch, Mama and I went to the Marina and walked allllllll over, peeking in stores and enjoying what turned out to be a lovely, sunny, breezy day. Around 4:30 pm we drove to Golden Gate Park and walked to (and around) Stow Lake, which is always beautiful, and then were thoroughly exhausted when we got back to the car around 6. We stopped and picked up some burritos (to complete the Northern California experience) and headed home.

Today I drove her by Balboa on the way to the airport, which rounded out the trip . . . I'm sad to see her go, but it was such a fun time!

Here are some pics:

And now back to my normal, superbusy schedule.

Can Cell Phone Radiation Stop Alzheimer's Disease?

We usually see electronic gadgets such as mobile phone as gadgets that come with dangerous side effects. I posted about the dangers of radiation from cell phones for seniors. Many people also believe that cell phone use can cause major diseases such as brain cancer. However, a recent study shows that mobile phone radiation may be the key to stopping an illness that plagues seniors.

A study led by Gary Arendash of the University of South Florida in Tampa shows that cell phone radiation can prevent Alzheimer's disease.

Mice that were genetically altered to develop the rodent equivalent of Alzheimer's disease were exposed to the cell phone radiation. The results show that the mice exposed to radiation did better on tasks requiring memory than those not exposed. Amazingly, an impaired old mice regained memory after the treatment.

Apparently, the radiation broke up plaques of beta amyloid protein in the mice's brain cells. These plaques, which are found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease, cause the brain cells to degenerate and produces memory loss and other symptoms.

Obviously, this study has significance with seniors. Alzheimer's disease is generally diagnosed in people over 65 years of age.

Hopefully, this study can lead to a medical device that replicates the cell phone radiation's benefits for humans.

It's interesting to know that cell phones for senior citizens have other useful benefits other than connecting the elderly with family and friends.

That's it for this interesting bit of mobile phones for seniors news. Tune in to this blog for more senior friendly phones, news and updates.

App updates: gPodder 2.4 and MaePad 1.5

This week, it's once again time to update two of the more prominent apps in my collection: gPodder 2.4 "The Pants Alternative" for both Diablo and Fremantle and MaePad 1.5 "Productive" for Fremantle.

With the installation of PR1.2 on the autobuilder, MaePad can once again be built on it, so I've resumed uploading of MaePad releases to Maemo.org.

So, what's in it for you? Let's start with gPodder:

  • Progress bar for loading episodes (and optimized episode list loading)
  • "All episodes" view is not grouped per-podcast anymore (all episodes are now sorted descending by date)
  • Faster download resuming on application start (with progress dialog)
  • Automatic clean-up of finished downloads
  • Simplified layout of progress indicator dialogs (e.g. deleting episodes, unsubscribing from podcasts)

And now for your favourite productivity tool, the MaePad:

  • "w" in the checklist/sketch view now saves the database
  • Fullscreen mode of checklists uses portrait mode (for shopping use, etc..)
  • Node type displayed in overview (there's a themeing issue here with the highlights and the secondary text color.. suggestions welcome)

Now it's your turn: Please test the new packages and then vote for the packages here: MaePad QA page and gPodder QA page. Any bugs that you will find should be reported here: new bug against gPodder and MæPad t.m.o thread.

The PR1.2 SDK on the autobuilder adds a dependency on a newer Hildon version that cannot be fulfilled in earlier firmware versions, so I'll build a package compatible with pre-PR1.2 firmware soon and publish the package on the MaePad homepage for manual installation during this transition period until PR1.2 becomes available for end users.

Mac OS X, lista dei comandi utili all'avvio

Come fare.

javascript:location.href='http://translate.google.it/translate?u='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&sl=auto&tl=it&hl=&ie=UTF-8';

iPhoto, velocizzare l'apertura riparando i permessi

Come fare.

5th Period Today in 3 Parts:

1.
I walk into class to see two students throwing a condom back and forth at each other. Said condom is not in its wrapper.

2.
As I'm reading the journal question aloud:
MP: "Ms. Kiefer, can I step outside? I need to fart."
me: "Seriously? Fine, hurry up. It takes about 2 seconds."
GM: "I need to too."
ZT: "Me too."
me: (wtf?)

3.
A conversation:
me: "Listen up, I have an update about our fundraising project . . . see, San Francisco Unified School District has a policy about nutrition, so we aren't going to be able to sell cupcakes to raise money. We got an email today about--"
MP: "Ms. Kiefer you go to the club?" (commences dancing in his seat)
me: "Ummm . . . so the SFUSD policy mandates that we only distribute healthy food. Obviously cupcakes don't qualify. So either we have to--"
MP: "Naw fo real you go to the club?"
me: " . . . I'd like to focus on our Children of Incarcerated Parents Bill of Rights event. We either need to have our bake sale outside of school, or we need to sell something really healthy."
GM: "How about we sell yogurt parfaits?"
me: "That's a great idea, G. And we could actually probably make a better profit from yogurt parfaits if we buy the supplies at Costco."
ZT: "Or we could could just get Larry from 33rd St. to steal them for us."

Uh, yeah. That's a fantastic idea.

But after I left the little monsters today, I got to come see two of my favorite little boys, and guess who's on my lap right now?

baby Judebug, 3 weeks old

And my mama comes tomorrow, yay!!

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic REVIEW
Nokia has first ensured that the new 5630 XpressMusic ticks the musical boxes. Comes with Music enabled in selected countries, it’s ready to soak up to 3,000 songs into its slender shell via a 4GB microSD memory card that comes in the box. Likewise, its tuneful talents extend to the ’say and play’ feature (first debuted on the 5320 XpressMusic last year), letting you speak the name of an artist of track to automatically play it. Plus, the Nokia 5630 comes loaded with a 3.5mm headphone connector, stereo Bluetooth, FM stereo and Internet radio to wrap up its music credentials. Now here comes the twist…

Alongside those core talents sit some unusual but welcome suspects on the features front. For starters it’s a full blown S60 device with fast HSDPA connectivity, meaning it’s primed to be loaded with apps and able to exploit many of the best Internet services out there, such as widgets (a la the 5800 and upcoming N97), Ovi Share and Nokia Messaging.

Similarly, it throws N-Gage gaming into the mix – only the second time Nokia’s premium gaming platform has been available on a non Nseries device (the 6210 just got there first). However, at just 12mm slim and weighing only 83g, this makes the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic the slimmest and lightest N-Gage gaming device to date.

Another smart addition is the home screen, which features a new Contacts Bar that has a definite widget feel to it – smartly animated, you can scroll through icons for up to 20 contacts and interact with them directly from the home screen.

The 5630 XpressMusic from Nokia comes with a complete N-Gage experience with an N-Gage shortcut on the homescreen. N-Gage offers an entire catalogue of mobile games from leading game publishers, a multiplayer game feature, and the ability to track progress, as well as add friends to play games against. In addition, the Nokia 5630 cell phone comes with a full focus 3.2 megapixel camera with flash function. Pictures or videos can be captured and shared via a favorite online community, such as Share on Ovi, Flickr, or Facebook.

Fatto.

MaemoPad+ ported to Desktop Linux

Some weeks ago, a user of MaemoPad+ asked me if it was possible to port MaemoPad+ to the Desktop, so users of Tablet PCs can make use of it. Apart from that, this can also be useful for users of MaePad to copy their "memos.db" file from the N900 to their PC and edit the file (or just view the contents) on the big screen. The file format used by both MaemoPad+ and MaePad is the same, so users of the mobile versions can share their database files with the Desktop version (and vice versa), which by the way looks like this at the moment:

Screenshot of MaemoPad+ on the Desktop

Most of the Maemo 4 libraries are readily available in Debian (hildon, libosso, hildon-icons, etc..), so the initial port has not been too difficult, even though proper Desktop integration obviously needs more work, and there are some ugly crashers still hidden inside the code ;)

I wonder if it's possible to also package Maemo 5 libraries (Hildon 2.2, etc..) for Debian and upload them to the Debian repositories - this should make it easier to port Maemo 5 applications to the Linux Desktop without having to re-write the whole UI layer. Another cool thing would be to have Hildon 2.2 for Diablo, which would allow us to "backport" Maemo 5 apps to Maemo 4 - again, without the work of having to re-write the UI.

Packages for Ubuntu are available from the MaemoPad+ PPA, and the source is available via Git. Please send backtraces of crashes or (even better!) patches against the "desktop" branch in the Git repo.

Snapfon Ez One Cell Phone for Seniors at CTIA

I have to say that I'm pleased to see cell phones for seniors being displayed at major wireless shows like CTIA. Emporia phones were showcased at MWC and Doro phones got some action at CES so I hope this trend will continue.

This the time the Snapfon Ez One cell phone for senior citizens was showcased at CTIA Wireless 2010 in Las Vegas. This handset looks very similar to the ZTE S302 and the iNO CP09. I guess it's the same model under different names. The device is being sold for $99.99.

Here's the video captured by the folks at Butterscotch.com:

The Ez One cell phone for seniors is an ideal device for senior users. Like other senior-friendly handsets, it has big and bright keypad buttons, large fonts, and a built-in SOS button.

This handset also has some interesting bonus features such as the LED flashlight, built-in digital FM tuner, and included Hi Fi headset.

I hope you enjoyed the video. I think it will tell you much moe about the Ez One than any text I cn add.

That's it for this post. Tune in to this blog for more information on services and cell phones for seniors.

I Guess I Have a Type

but most of us already knew that. I just can't help it, I love this guy:

(For those of you not in the know, Andrew is one of this season's American Idol contestants). I love his sweet croon, his bad-ass-nice-guy swagger, and the fact that he cries when he's overcome with emotion. :) My friend Jason thinks he looks like a furby, which I guess is pretty true, but that just makes him all the more adorable. No one loved last night's rendition of Heard it Through the Grapevine, but I voted for him like a zillion times so he'll be cool, I'm sure. ;) Who is everyone else rooting for?

Happy middle-of-the-week, and wish me luck with the hardest poem assignment I've received in years . . .
