Orkut.com one the most popular social networking site is all set for a new look. Here is preview of what is to come very soon. The site will continues to be blue in background. The designers have added some rounded corners and new icons that make orkut look a little more sleek and modern. This new design is all complete and would be rolled out to all within few days.

Orkut's popularity in many countries have been rising for quite some time now, especially in India. With more and more friends joining the site daily Google is also very much keen to enhance the services provided by Orkut. This site enhancement is a part of developing the overall brand image of Orkut. Couple of weeks ago they added features like photo and rich content scraps, favorite videos and feeds to make it easier to communicate with your friends and share content. They have also translated the site into 12 languages so users can add orkut friends from all over the globe. Orkut recently also became the MTV youthicon 2007, which re-confirms that Orkut is important to India's youth.

Orkut itself have come a along way from the very initial development (with limited users & join by invitaion only) to a open to all concept. As of today Orkut is the second most visited site in India as per Alexa. Orkut's popularity is also landing the site in trouble with Indian authorities. It was involved in quite a few controversies, most of which were cases of obscene or defamatory fake profiles and hate communities. But with all this plus and minus it still remains to be a fun place to be. Hey friends would like to know your views on this new avtar of Orkut.. post in your comments below

India grows younger at sixty

"If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn't have in the beginning" these are the golden quotes by Mahatma Gandhi, which I truly believe.

This year India is celebrating its sixty year of independence. Here are some facts about India, which I thought of sharing with all.

With an estimated population of 1.12 billion, India is the world's second most populous country and is expected to be the most populous by 2030. With the world's 12th largest economy at market exchange rates and the 3rd largest in purchasing power, India has made rapid economic progress after independence. India maintains the third largest military force in the world, which consists of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Auxiliary forces such as the Paramilitary Forces, the Coast Guard, and the Strategic Forces Command also come under the military's purview.

Foreign exchange reserves have risen from US$5.8 billion in March 1991 to US$208 billion in June 2007. With a GDP growth rate of 9.4% in 2006-07, the Indian economy is among the fastest growing in the world. India's GDP in terms of USD exchange-rate is US$1,103 billion. India has the world's fourth largest GDP at US$4.156 trillion. India's per capita income (nominal) is $979, ranked 128th in the world, while its per capita (PPP) of US$3,700 is ranked 118th.

Well does that mean India is successful ?

Well success has different interpretations. For me India breaking out of the shackles and becoming a free economy is success, that we are the fastest growing economies in the World is success, that we have become an important factor in the IT revolution is success, that some of the richest people are Indians is success, that we have had the most beautiful women in the Miss World and Universe competitions is success, that we are moving towards an unmanned mission to the moon is success. I could keep going on and on and yet there would still be many more things we need to do.

Well, i would like to get your(my readers) views as well on India's achievements, challenges, priority etc..

What does it mean to be independent ? What does it mean to us? As Indians. As a nation. As a rising economic power in the world. In an increasingly global economy. And culture. What have we done right? And what, has gone horribly wrong? And what are the lessons learnt?

Tricks to surf the web from workplace anonymously

Here are two tricks I thought of sharing to all you people who like to surf the web from their workplace but don't want others to look at what they are browsing. In many companies employees are not allowed to use the internet during the work hours, however many employees still prefers to surf during their spare time. Here are the tricks, you could try..

Trick no.1: A browser called Maxthon, which is freely available on the net has a functionality call the 'Boss Key'. This is nothing but a feature to hide the browser. There is a shortcut to hide and unhide the browser Alt + ~ key combination like a toggle switch. The option can be found in File Menu. If you are not allowed to download this software from your workplace, transfer this via USB drive/CD. So now you can surf and use the 'Boss Key' to hide the browser.

Trick no.2: On the same lines as above, here we have an application called the 'Boss Key' which hides the active application, be it a browser, folder, application etc.. This software is freeware and released by EfreeSoft. All it does is it allows you to hide active program window immediately using a hot key. It's speed is brought to maximum to allow you react as quickly as possible to any threat that appears. You won't feel even a slight difference in the performance of your home or office computer after installing it.

Friends if you have any other methods, please share this with us via your comments.
