Nokia C7 is affordable top C series handset to launch soon

The Nokia C7 is not yet officially announced but is rumoured to be slated for release in Q4 of 2010. It is the upcoming smartphone from Nokia and will fall in the C-series line up. It works on Symbian 3 and packs 8 megapixel camera, 3.5 inches
capacitive AMOLED touchscreen with multitouch and pinch to zoom support and stereo speakers. It is very similar to Nokia N8 but can be fetched at much lower price. Its price is speculated at around Rs.19000 and it is supposedly the top model of the C series of Nokia.


It differs from Nokia N8 in not having 12 MP Xenon flash camera, HDMI and has lesser memory on board.There are abundant connectivity options as Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 3.0 support. The handset also has 256 MB of RAM. BL-5K battery has the capacity of 1200 mAh and offers up to 390 hours in the standby mode and from 5.5 to 12 hours of talk time (UMTS/GSM) in C7.


In all, Nokia lovers will choose this one for its credibility.

Hyosung GT650R to be launched in this festival season

Hyosung Motors is mulling over to launch the new Hyosung GT650R in the Indian auto market in this festival season. The new Hyosung GT650R has already been getting huge success in Australia and Europe markets and now looking for the Indian market. The new Bike is believed to be preformed well in the superbikes segment, where already have many superbikes including Kawasaki Ninja, Suzuki Bandit 1250S, Harley Davidson Cvo etc. After the launch in the auto market, The new Hyosung GT650R will compete with these most popular superbikes in the country.



New Hyosung GT650R will be powered by A 90-degree, V-Twin motor, 4 stroke, water-cooled DOHC 8-valve. The powertrain of this motorcycle can expect to produce top power output of 82 BHP at 9000 rpm and peak torque of 67Nm @ 7200 rpm with its 647cc. According to some news reports, the new Hyosung GT650R also has equipped with attractive components include a 6-speed gearbox, twin projectors, backlit digital speedometer, adjustable rear monoshock suspension and twin discs at the front which makes it superb bike in India.



The new bike will come with the price range of between Rs 3.75 to 4 lakh (ex-showroom-Delhi). The Hyosung GT650R accelerates to get 100 kmph in just less than 6 second. The rest of features like Disc brakes, suspension etc are the same as superbikes. Apart from that launch, Indian superbikes lovers will see more launches in India that includes Suzuki Gladuis, Kawasaki Ninja 650R and Yamaha Yzf R6.

A "Genius" Idea

Friday night, after a fun happy hour with coworkers (hello, cucumber vodka cocktails, I love you), my dear friend Doro and I had a belated birthday celebration over a fantastic meal at Zero Zero. We had grenache, one of my favorite salads of the summer (heirloom tomato, avocado, pickled onion, and bread), and pasta they make in-house. Mine was full of eggplant and cherry tomatoes and ricotta, and I ate every last bite!

Doro gave me a lovely pair of earrings that I've worn twice but have yet to take a picture of, but even more awesome than that . . .

New Bajaj Pulsar to be launched in 2011

Bajaj Auto Limited, India's one of the largest premium motorcycle manufacturer, is intending to launch an upgraded version of its most popular motorcycle brand, Bajaj Pulsar by next year. The company is getting overwhelming response from the Indian buyers on its popular brands like Bajaj Discover and Pulsar. Right Now, Bajaj Auto has launched the wide range of these models family. The Bajaj Pulsar is presently available in four variants including Pulsar 220 DTS-i, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 135LS. Out of these variants, Bajaj Pulsar 135LS is performing extremely well in the Indian auto market. Behind of these models, Bajaj Discover is also achieving great high in the domestic market.



The company has already launched an upgraded higher version of Discover family christened Bajaj Discover 150. S Sridhar, President of Bajaj Auto (motorcycles) said, “From the ninth position in the first quarter of 2009-10, Discover has climbed to the third position in the first quarter of 2010-11. This is a huge boost for us. Going ahead, our focus will be on the two brands — Pulsar and Discover,” Bajaj Auto India Limited aims to excel Hero Honda in sales to reach the number one position. The small version of Bajaj Pulsar in India has also been sold in Indonesia through KTM outlets. Bajaj Auto's expansion plans for launches new bikes in India including Bajaj XCD and Bajaj Blade soon in India.

Playing around with MeeGo Touch

While the MeeGo Touch Python Bindings are still not packaged and released, I though I'd give the C++ library a try and have a look through the class hierarchy. After getting the basic "Hello World" app running, I decided to create an application that can load the list of subscriptions from gPodder's SQLite database:

This view uses MContentItem, which already provides an icon and two lines of text - correctly styled and ready to go. Menu and toolbar items are MAction objects that can either appear everywhere or only at specific places (e.g. only in the toolbar). The great thing is that this all works on your Desktop in a normal window, so testing applications on your computer will be much easier with MeeGo Touch than it is with Hildon (which does not really run without its own hildon-desktop session in Xephyr).

The screenshot above is from the prototype written in C++, and shows how a gPodder MeeGo UI could look like. The MeeGo Touch UI of gPodder will be implemented in Python once the bindings are ready - the framework seems to be fun to work with so far. If you would like to play around with it yourself: MeeGo Touch is available from the MeeGo PPA of Ville M. Vainio if you are on Ubuntu and don't want to build it yourself.

gPodder 2.8 for Maemo 5: Notifications and MAFW integration

It's been some time since the last gPodder release, and I've been busy adding some nifty features to make the best use of the on-board facilities of Maemo 5. As already mentioned in a previous post, this new version comes with built-in notification support. After installation, you might have to re-start hildon-home (or your device) for the changes to become effective. That's what you will get when new episodes are found:

The other and more "invisible" change is that gPodder now listens to MAFW and also talks to it at times. MAFW is the backend of the Media Player application, and you profit in two ways from this integration:

• The last playback position and duration of an episode are displayed in gPodder and synchronized to gpodder.net
• Playback can be resumed even with the Media Player application

This means that users of the normal Media Player application will benefit from all the goodies that were previously only available in combination with Panucci. Combined with the new notifications, this makes for yet another great release with even better integration into the Maemo 5 environment.

gPodder 2.8 is now available from Extras-Testing, so please test, review and vote on the package.

Nokia C1 Dual SIM card Mobile Phone

Nokia, Finland's largest manufacturer of mobile phone reportedly will issue a dual SIM card. Currently Nokia is preparing a GSM ON GSM mobile phone named Nokia C1 has ever been heard in June. However, the new plan can be implemented today.

Later, the first country that will have the opportunity to feel the ability of Nokia Dual SIM cards, this is Nigeria, which is one of the countries in Africa. In Africa, Nokia will launch the Nokia C1 to rival China which is growing in countries classified as such.

With the presence of Nokia in the West African region, C1 would be expected to Nokia phones that can be surpassed and easy to use, and users simply press a button in order to replace another card access.

Vespa Scooter will launch by the end of 2011.

Italian based motorbike and scooter manufacturer company Piaggio is planning to launch Vespa scooter by the end of 2011 in Indian two wheeler market. Chairman and Managing Director Director (India) Ravi Chopra conform this on the sidelines of an automobiles conference.



The Indian unit Piaggio plans to spend around 30 million euros to set up a scooter plant in the country which production capacity of 150,000 units per year.

TVS Motors will invest Rs. 200 crore in auto market

TVS Motors has announced that it will invest Rs. 200 crore in auto market by April 2011 to increase its production capacity upto 28 lakh units. TVS also wants to set up a design centre in Indonesia where it has already a manufacturing units.

Venu Srinuvasan, Chairman, TVS Motors told that the demond of production are increasing day by day and to meet the demand its nessecarry to invest Rs. 200 crore for increasing production capacity upto 28 lakh units from the existing 21 lakh units per annum.



He also added that the company expect to sell 18 lakh units of two wheeler in the donestic market and export 2.5 lakh units this running year. TVS is also planning that Brazil to be the hub for latin American market.

Presently TVS has assembled its most popular bike Apache in Brazil, the company also wants to increase export to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and ASEAN countries. TVS Motor reported a rise of 14.80 percent in its total two wheeler sales at 15,21,912 units in the last fiscal year.

Google Introduces Free Phone Call Service via Gmail

On Wednessday Google introduced its free phone call service within its Gmail service. Currently calling to any United States and Canada landline or mobile/cell number is absolutely free and for other countries the rates are at the lowest.

How low ? well, real low here's an example - If you are using a conventional voice-over-Internet-Protocol calling plan or Skype Call service a call to Argentina - Buenos Aires per min would cost you $ 0.21 where as the same call via Google costs $0.02. If you have a Google Voice account, the other person will see that number in their caller ID. You can also answer their calls from within Gmail; an incoming call will generate an alert in the bottom right corner of the Gmail window, which you can click to answer.

Mahindra plans to launch new bike next year

Mahindra 2-wheeler, India's one of the leading two-wheeler producer, is all set to launch the new bike soon in India. The company is presently selling four models in the Indian auto market including Mahindra Duro, Rodeo, Kine and Sym Flyte. The all gear-less Scooters of the company are performing extremely well in the market. According to some news sources, Mahindra 2-wheeler is going to launch the new motorcycles in India by next year.



The new bike will be marketed under the Mahindra brand. Anoop Mathur, president of Mahindra two-Wheelers, said, “We have achieved a milestone by selling one lakh scooters in just 10 months as against a set target of 18 months. Our plan now is to enter the motor-cycle market by end-this year. The company is also working on a unique product that will be assembled in the same plant where our scooters are manufactured. In 2008, Mahindra Group was bought Italy-based Engines and the company is creating new motorcycle at its Italy-based engines Engineering.



Mahindra two-wheelers all manufacturing units like Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. are producing nearly 5-6 lakh scooters yearly. The new bike will compete with another premium motorcycles like Bajaj Discover 150cc, Honda CB Dazzler, Yamaha Fazer etc. Meanwhile, TVS Max, Suzuki Gladius, TVS Apache 220 and Kawasaki Ninja 650r are the upcoming bikes in India.

Tata Motors tie-up with IndusInd Bank for retail financing

Tata Motors has entered into an understanding with IndusInd Bank for financing its range of passenger vehicles to provide an added facility of finance to its customers. A memorandum of understanding was signed by senior executives of both the companies today. Mr. R. Ramakrishnan Vice President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors Limited said, “The customers of Tata Motors will now have access to customised finance products from IndusInd Bank. We are sure that our growing network will also drive the tie-up to achieve the aspirational growth targets. IndusInd ranks in the top retail financiers for Tata Motors commercial vehicle segment today and we are happy to extend this partnership for our passenger vehicle business as well. IndusInd Bank will be one of the preferred financiers for Tata cars and utility vehicles.”



Announcing the tie-up, Mr S. V. Parthasarathy, EVP-Consumer Finance Division, IndusInd Bank said, “With this tie-up IndusInd Bank would be in a position to cater the financial needs of Tata Motors customers for the entire range of vehicles sold by Tata Motors. With their huge reach IndusInd Bank and Tata Motors would be able to cater to AAM AADMI ” Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with consolidated revenues of Rs. 92,519 crores ($ 20 billion) in 2009-10. Through subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Spain. Among them is Jaguar Land Rover, the business comprising the two iconic British brands. It also has an industrial joint venture with Fiat in India. With over 5.9 million Tata vehicles plying in India, Tata Motors is the country’s market leader in commercial vehicles and among the top three in passenger vehicles.

Vibgyor Shark is ready to launch by October

The newly debuted motorcycles manufacturer, Vibgyor Vehicles, which is one of the most popular motorcycle brands in Kolkata. After getting huge success in Kolkata, the company is looking forward to expand its two-wheeler market by the launching various motorcycles across the country. Vibgyor Vehicles is planning to launch the new Vibgyor Shark along with Vibgyor Hunter by October 2010. The transmission system of this bike has been loaded with five speed gearbox that follows all front down pattern. The new Shark 150cc would be offering an standard mileage of around 50 kmpl in the Indian streets. The fuel tank capacity of this bike is 14 litres and 1 litres of reserve.

Joint innovation research center of Nokia & Intel to open in Finnish University

To enhance the capabilities of mobile devices, a new joint innovation research center will be opened by Intel and Nokia in Oulu University of Finland.

Nokia is a Finland based mobile handset making giant and the choice of opening its new research center there was quite obvious. Currently, Intel also has a huge and widely spread network called as Intel’s European Research Network in Europe and establishment of this one will add one more jewel in this network.

Mobiles are an essential part of each and everyone’s life these days. Their utility and significance in every sphere of life has increased many folds. It is useful in personal life as much as in professional life. The life of youngsters and business executives is incomplete without mobile-based communication whether it is on call or social networking sites or messengers.

The new research center will employ some 24 R&D professionals and the lab will be equipped with open source platform by Intel and Nokia, MeeGo. The R&D professionals there will focus on developing open-source software and displaying of 3D holograms of people one talks to on mobile. The softwares developed will very well complement with the Intel’s chips and its applications will be in making of
virtual control panel for a mobile device to regulate heating and lighting in a real world home. The scenes of some sci-fi movies will become true if this research be fruitful.

Nokia N8, Nokia C3 to launch in India by September followed by Nokia C6

Nokia, India will launch its high-end smartphone Nokia N8 in mid of September, 2010 along with mid-range QWERTY phone from Nokia, the Nokia C3. For the other C series mobile handset from Nokia, the Nokia C6, people will have to wait till October, 2010.

One may remember Nokia N8 as fully-armed multimedia handset with 12MP camera capable of 720p HD video recording. This is its highlight as its HDMI-out enables users to hook N8 to HDTV. The phone has a solid design with aluminium case and sports 3.5-inch capactive AMOLED touchscreen. Its internal storage stands at 16GB and is upgradeable via microSD slot. It works undisturbed at a refurbished Symbian 3 operating system with multi-touch support for the functioning of browser and photo viewer. The Nokia N8 price will approximately be Rs. 25,000.


Nokia C3 will also land by September in India at a very affordable Price, Rs. 7000.It is a full QWERTY mobile handset which runs on S40 OS and sports 2.4 inches display. It also packs good multimedia features such as 2MP camera, FM radio and 3.5mm stereo headphones jack. It is also Wi Fi enabled.


Nokia C6 that will be able to hit the Indian mobile stores only by October is a affordable version of Nokia N97 mini. This trendy phone lacks 16 GB storage given in N97 but has all other features of that handset like a 5MP camera with autofocus, a 3.5-inch resistive touchsreen and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. At a price of Rs 15,000, C6 will be among the most affordable smartphones in India.

Friday I'm in Love!

Today's done a number on me (who wants to have to guide a teenager through a pregnancy test on her lunch break . . . especially when said teenager already has a 6 month old!???), but I'm gonna will myself chipper by doing a Friday I'm in Love post:

So while I'm tempted to focus on all the things I'm most decidedly not in love with (teenage pregnancy, my headache, throwing up my lunch, etc.), here's a list of things that are striking my fancy and making it all a little bit cheerier . . .

1. CHEAT DAY

In one blissful hour I'm heading over to Zero Zero in San Francisco's SOMA district to:

a) celebrate the birthdays of two wonderful co-workers, and then

b) meet up with my friend Doro for a dinner

Being really strict about what I eat makes me all the more grateful for good food, wine, and cocktails on my weekly cheat days. So excited for Zero Zero's old school cocktails and heirloom tomato salad!

2. FUNNY STUDENTS

I walk into 2nd period today and my student E.M. says to me:

"Whatsup, Snowflake?"

HA! "White girl" = offensive. "Snowflake" = hilarious.

Okay I think that's pretty much it. Sorry. Can't eke out anything else . . . maybe tomorrow. Ha.
