Maruti Suzuki to establish new plant at Manesar

India's leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today held its 29th Annual General Meeting here today. At the meeting Mr. O Suzuki, Chairman and CEO, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, (majority stakeholder in MSIL), made wide ranging announcements.The plans for the fourth plant of the company are at very initial stage as of now and the company is working on a project survey report regarding this plant. Currently, the total annual manufacturing capacity of the company is about 10 lakh units in India that will be increased to 12.5 lakh units as soon as its third plant goes operational. Going on the same line, the fourth plant will add another 2.5 lakh units in the company's annual production capacity and will take it to 15 lakh units.

The establishment of these new plants will not only help the company in regaining the crucial market share of more than 50 percent in its domestic market but also bring down the mounting waiting periods of some of its popular cars. At present, the delivery period for some of its popular cars like Maruti Swift Dzire has reached up to 3 to 4 months due to massive supply constraints. According to a statement given by company's chairman R.C. Bhargav, the second plant of the company at Manesar is expected to be operational in 2011 and thus the company will obviously look for the third plant. Maruti Suzuki has also launched three new re-freshed versions including Maruti Alto K10, Maruti A-Star AT and Maruti Ritz Genus. On the other hand, The company is also planning to launch one other cheapest car, Maruti Cervo soon in India.
