China based Huawei Technologies has plans to sell about one million smart phones in India under its own brand name in 2010. At present, Nokia has the largest share (54.1%) of mobile handsets sold in India in the last year. But, the popularity and demand of low-cost cheap mobiles is fast emerging in massive Indian mobile market.
Huawei will also benefit from the trend as it will start selling cheap but full-featured devices or smartphones by August, 2010. Later, 3G services may also be catered to by the Huawei Technologies.
The company will sell these smartphones through its own retail channels. These 20 or so smartphones will run on open source Android operating system and the Brew MP operating system from Qualcomm. The Huwaei smartphones prices will fall in the affordable range of Rs.7000 to Rs.12000.
