Keeping in mind the needs and requirements of the rural world of especially the developing countries like India, Nokia has released new entry-level phone, Nokia 1280.
Nokia 1280 is designed especially for the remote rural areas. Its highlight, certainly, is in built Nokia Life Tools in it. The service is meant to guide the users in areas of Agriculture, Education and Entertainment. The data is delivered through SMS, so need for GPRS is decimated. The service, though, may work in selected markets only.
Nokia 1280 is a dual-band GSM with monochrome display and S30 User Interface. It also has a dust and scratch resistant keypad. Its battery has been made robust to let the handset work for longer without recharging the battery as in cases of power failure. It gives 22 days of standby and up to 8 hours and 30 minutes of talk time, besides a built-in flashlight.
There are five different phonebooks, FM radio, a 3.5mm audio jack, handsfree, calendar and an alarm/clock that speaks in the local languages.
The Nokia 1280 price is around 1500 INR.
