GeoEye-1 satellite was launched on on September 6, at the time of its launch GeoEye-1 was the world’s highest resolution commercial earth-imaging satellite. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Google both paid $502 million for the satellite.
While GeoEye-1 is capable of imagery with details the size of 41 centimetres (16 in), Google will have access to details of 50 centimetres (20 in). The GeoEye-1 is set to serve not only Google but also the US government.
